Keynote Speaker: Fiona Williams
Fiona Williams was Professor of Social Policy in the Department of Sociology and Social Policy at the University of Leeds, and Director of the ESRC Research Group on Care, Values and the Future of Welfare, a five-year research programme investigating the implications in changes in parenting and partnering practices for future social policy (www.leeds.ac.uk/cava). Her most recent publication is Rethinking Families published by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in June 2004. Other publications include work on care and ethics, female migration, and race and gender in the European Union.
Fiona is co-editor of Social Politics: International Studies in Gender, State and Society; she is on the national council of the think-tank, Catalyst; and a member of the NFPI National Commission into the Future of the Family and the Well-being of Children, to report in 2004.
